Creating HTML Emails

Does anyone have a best method of posting an HTML email? I want to send html emails from my computer, not from ConstantContact or Quotient or MonitorCampaign, just from my email client to yours'... what do I do, so that the images that I included when I created the html file go with the email and arrives safely at its destination?
